Monday Morning Gamer 22-5

Hello and good morning! I think this is a first: me actually posting a Monday Morning Gamer post on an actual morning! (It’s 8:14 am here, for those wondering). Sure, pessimists might point to the fact that it is Tuesday instead of Monday, but I choose to look at the glass as half full!

Anyway, another shortish post for you this morning. I have a few thoughts on the new Empire book. I know it’s been out for a while already, but I didn’t do a proper post on it before so I’ll mention some thoughts now. Secondly, we have another installment of our Farewell to 5th painting challenge. We’ve hit a sizeable snag last week, which I’ll mention below, but most of us managed to push through and get some painting done. Lastly, just some thoughts on the way army selection works in our group currently. Nothing big, just some thoughts I’ve had while playing in our Blood in the Badlands campaign.

Let’s get to is, shall we?

Monday Morning Gamer 14/5

Goodday to all! I have a short post for you today. Haven´t been up to much gaming lately, so have nothing to share on that front. What I do have for you are some pics! Last week we started a Farewell to 5th painting challenge and my, my, are we off to a great start! Well, when I say great, I actually mean a good start. Or rather, let´s just say we´ve at the very least gotten started! Check below for more!

Also, as has been mentioned over on our Blood in the Badlands page, I promised to put up two versions of the map Shalen made for our campaign. One is with grids, the other is completely grid-less.

"Monday" Morning Gamer 28/2

Hello and welcome to another edition of MMG. I’ll ignore the fact that it isn’t Monday, as per usual, and just move on to telling what I have for you today.

Firstly, a report of the start of our Blood in the Badlands campaign. We’ve officially started and already things are turning out grim and bloody. Good stuff!

Next up is some American Football related stuff that some might find interesting. I do, at least!

And finally, because can you really ever have enough, a look at a newish 40K expansion by Forgeworld, called Zone Mortalis. They made some awesome terrain pieces but you’ll see those later on.

Off we go!

Monday Morning Gamer 13/2

Oh, Monday the 13th! Spooky! Well, for some reason Mondays aren’t bad luck for a 13th day of the month, but at the very least it’s kinda spooky I managed to post an update of MMG on an actual Monday! (I know, I know, my opening paragraphs suck… I’ll try and work on them.)

What have I got lined up for you today? To be honest, not that much yet. Well, I say not much, but it’s actually quite exciting, but it’s just a single subject as opposed to multiple different things as usual. But let’s not dwell on what you’re not getting and keep a positive attitude. Today, I have, especially for you, a grid map of the Badlands! Made by Shalen, thanks a lot, it’s exactly what we were looking for. It’s not quite finished, but good enough for me to show you what it’s all about and talk a bit more about what the campaign is all about.

Let’s get to it, yeah?

Wednesday Morning Gamer - 9/2

Late again, as per usual!. Still, here I am with another installment of MMG, chock-full of all manner of wargaming goodness. Let’s see what’s in store for today:

Firstly a look at how we’re getting on with Dystopian Wars. Played another game this Sunday, and boy, did I get beat! More on that later.

Next, a look ahead at our Blood in the Badlands campaign. Originally, when the book was just released, the plan was to start the campaign “somewhere a couple of months in, after new year’s”. Well, according to my calculations that would be right about now, or at the very least, soonish!

Thirdly, I thought I’d do a bit of a guide for people looking to start collecting a new army. As everyone who’s ever pondered which army to play can tell you, there’s a lot more that goes into choosing an army than “ pick the models you like best” . Here’s some tips and pointers.

Lastly, some thoughts on the LotR strategy battle game revival that’s been brought on by GW’s releases this month.

Promises to be a pretty long post. Think I can use that as an excuse for posting late? No...?

Off we go!

Monday Morning Gamer 23/1

Hello and welcome to this week´s Monday Morning Gamer here on Thunderstomp! Once again it is long past morning for me (have I even ever posted MMG on a Monday Morning?), but I like the alliteration of the title and therefore will keep it! I mean, if it works for Peter King, it should damn well be good enough for me! (Awesome weekly football column, that, btw. I’ve been reading it every week for years and years and it never disappoints. If you like NFL football this is for you.) Anyway! What have I in store for you today? Well, continuing on from last week I have some more stuff on Dystopian Wars for you, starting with some of my thoughts on the actual rules and general gameplay. Tomorrow I’ll dip an inexperienced toe in the ocean that is DW army/faction reviewing and run through my DW faction, the Covenant of Antarctica, based on the DW knowledge I have now. I’m sure my perceptions will change as I play more games, but I’ll just redo the review at a later time! I don’t have time to do a one today, so I’ll just promise to do it tomorrow!

Off we go!

Monday Morning Gamer - 19/12

Life intervened! But enough with the excuses! I'm back with a special edition of Monday Morning Gamer. While I usually talk about Fantasy related stuff on here, today I have for you the complete rules to a special type of 40K game. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to climb the ladder of power in one of the Dark Eldar Kabals in Commoragh? Do you have what it takes to become an Arena champion, or the most feared Haemonculus around? Here is your chance to find out! What follows are the rules for a small Campaign system, using just the Dark Eldar Codex and as many players as you can find.

Thunderstomp presents: Dark Streets of Commoragh!

Monday Morning Gamer - 12/12

Hello and welcome to Monday Morning Gamer, the place to get your post-weekend wargaming fix! Let’s start things off quickly because I have a lot of stuff to cover today:

The new FaQs are up for three Fantasy armies and I’ll take a look at each of them to discuss the changes. Next we take a look at something that we all do, but each of us does it slightly differently: List building! Some tips and things to look out for when you design your list. Lastly, a small teaser video of something I came across this morning that you computer gamers might find interesting.

And away we go!

Monday Morning Gamer - 28/11

Hello and good morning! What a week it´s been. First the weather was too crappy for me to take pics for Midweek Modeling and then my Campaign Battle got pushed back till Sunday, leaving me little time to write up the battle review for Game Night! All of which combines to me not having any content to post for most of last week. I shall endeavor to do better this week! (I like ‘endeavor’, such a nice word. People don’t use it enough.)

So, with that out of the way: Welcome to another edition of Monday Morning Gamer! I have actually had quite a fun week, gaming wise. I received a text that set off all sorts of ideas forming in my mind, I found something really awesome visiting my parents this weekend and I played the final battle in our 6 month Fantasy Campaign, which was a really cool battle!

For this week’s episode of MMG I have for you the following: A review of my absolute favourite unit in the Ogres Kingdoms book, a look at a spin off game by one of my favourite miniature companies ever, a very early look at a Dark Eldar only Escalation Campaign, and, finally, a look ahead!

Plenty of stuff, so let’s get to it!

Monday Morning Gamer - 21/11

Hello and welcome to Monday Morning Gamer! Ok, technically it’s not morning for me anymore, but it’s still, barely, Monday morning somewhere in the world. So I’ll just pretend that’s good enough.

For today’s installment of MMG I have a few things for you. Firstly, for those who haven’t seen it, I have a pic of the new Mangler Squig, set to be released next month. There are also models for the missing Beastmen Rares. I’m sure most of you will have seen them already, but in case you haven’t (Shalen, I’m looking at you!), here they are:

Now that’s out of the way and we have all decided what we think of the new Jabberslythe (I love it), here’s what else I have for you today: firstly, a Post Tournament look at my OK army and the changes I have made to it so far. Next, a notice of another double tournament coming up in January and finally a short talk about my Dogs of War army!

On with the show!

Monday Morning Gamer - 14/11

Look, I made a crappy Paint picture!
Good day to all, and welcome to the renamed Monday post on my blog. My usual sequence of weekly posts would mean today I would be talking about gaming background stuff, theory and overarching things like campaigns, but since I just came back from a tournament this Saturday, I thought I'd switch today's post with Friday's Game Night! post, and give you my tournament recap now. And not just because I think I'll have forgotten some stuff by then I might still remember now either. Honest.

As I explained here, I went to a tournament this saturday. This post will be all about how it went, what I saw and what I should do differently next time, if anything.

Off we go!
